Postal services have been a vital part of society for a long time and it still continues to be so. In some of the previous centuries when telephonic communication and internet connections did not exist, people communicated with each other through writing letters and sending packages with different goods and merchandise. Postal services are still very important these days for shipping purposes and also for official mail exchange. A lot of us had been fascinated by the idea of letters as kids. Post boxes were quite commonly situated on the sides of the streets for people to drop in their letters which were then collected by the postman and then taken for delivery. - In our country India, the very first post office was opened in the year 1727 by the East India Company. It was opened in Kolkata, which was then called Calcutta and acted as the capital of India. Afterwards, in the year 1774, the Calcutta GPO was opened and it is currently located in Fort William. There is an alleyway beside that post office which acted as the guard house for this infamous Black Hole Of Calcutta of 1756. In the United of America, the first official post office was opened in Boston, Massachusetts (Post Office Aesthetic).
- Even though we recognise the system of mail delivery through the post office, the people who work in the post office are at the backbone of the whole system. The people working inside the post office are responsible for processing the mail and dividing each thing according to the dates of posting. The postman is the one person who is responsible for the delivery of the mail, as he is the one who carries everything to the address of the receiver.
- Even though things have become very much improved and revolutionized when compared to how they used to be even a couple of years ago, a certain number of things have still remained the same. With the rise of online shopping among people, courier services and shipping companies have been rising each day in number. But that being said, post offices also play a very important role in the delivery of goods. This is because it is not always possible to find a good shipping company to deliver something to someone, particularly if it is a personal gift. Post offices are the best options during that time.
